~Why you should be a photographer reflection

Being a photographer for a career has actually crossed my mind a few times. This article seems to really push its readers in the right direction, swaying them to become photographers. It had definitely swayed me to take huge consideration in becoming a professional photographer. One, being the fact that it is freelanced. We are able to have our own schedule, work at our own times, completely flexible to our capabilities. That is the most important aspect in a job for me, being with the fact I am a complete night owl as well and cannot, for the life of me, wake early. Being able to work at your own time and pace was enough to convince me.   The demand for photography is also at a high in this day and age, with many advancements in technology almost every day. The money a photographer could make is astonishing and being able to do what you want for a living is an amazing way to earn it. It has completely swayed me to become a photographer.

Canon EOS Rebel T7 DSLR Camera with 18-55mm and 75-300mm Lenses Deluxe Kit $602.59 ~ This kit comes with not only a camera but a lens as well. It’s perfect for beginners in the photography industry and isn’t as expensive especially when starting out (even with $10,000 you need to budget smartly). Most money should go toward the lenses, backdrops and lighting. The kit comes with filters and a memory card as well.

Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Lens $399.00 ~ Opens a bit more than the previous lens which is good.

~Silver List critique

Jasmine Clarke had an extremely beautiful layout on their website. I loved the way the mouse icon changed and how a strikethrough would appear when you hover over a word or search tool that is on the left-side margin. The first photo you ever see on the website is the one attached, with her name over it in a beautiful old English font. The image itself makes a statement and allows you to have a firm grasp on what may be to come, photography and meaning wise. It was very aesthetically pleasing for my eyes and I enjoyed going through the website. The layout could be a bit different for my liking, like navigating through the page but other than that, it was a favorite to look at.

I was immediately drawn to this page and their cover photo. It was extremely beautiful in my eyes and an aesthetic that I adore. The cosmos and stars, the sky really especially at night would be my favorite to capture photos of. It’s incredibly beautiful and so pleasing for the soul. Going through the website of Granville Carroll, I had fallen in love with not only the photos, but the captions or pieces of writing embedded into the site as well. Incredibly beautiful and a favorite of the silver list photographers.

~Why is photography important to you?

Photography is extremely important in everyone’s life that they don’t even realize it, which is very odd. Being able to capture your happiest, wildest, and eve the saddest moments of your life. A picture can tell a thousand words and the fact that it is able to do all of that is amazing. Being able to keep a memory of something forever that is physical is a memento. Not only are these photos important to you, but they’re important to everyone in the world, as crazy as it sounds. With social media being as big as it is today, anyone and everyone could potentially see the photo that you have taken, and even publish it themselves and giving you credit for it. Photo’s are everywhere. Anywhere you go you see a photo hung up somewhere either advertising, informing, artistic or of anything really. Its eye catching and even could be life saving when it comes to photos used in medical science or any science, really. Photography plays a huge role in everyday lives and we don’t notice the amount of importance that it holds. This kind of hobby is the easiest one to pursue, it doesn’t take much to get started and the more you continue to grow the more you grow with photography. It has become so important in my daily life that I view everything as a perfect shot in my mind and I try to figure out how I can capture the memory permanently. Without photography, the world would feel bland and there would be nothing much to look at around every corner. With the impact this hobby has, it truly changes the world.

Influential photo 100

I had chosen this photo as my influential favorite because of who is in the photo. Growing up, my mom and I had always listened to The Beatles when driving in the car. They are a huge part of my childhood growing up. From listening to Magical Mystery Tour to Help! It really had changed my life for the best. This photo represents how I feel whenever I listen to their music, looking back on the early times when I was little. It fills me with an immense amount of nostalgia, makes me feel youthful and childish again. The pillow fight photo of the band symbolizes the youth and childlike mannerisms I feel when relistening to my mom and I’s favorite tracks together. The backstory and how the photographer didn’t want to interview the band was quite surprising yet funny to read. The Beatles were at their peak in the 60’s and 70’s and not wanting to interview the world’s most famous band at the time because you wanted to be taken as a serious journalist is crazy to hear. This only shows that taking risks and going against your own word can prove how life changing it could be. Harry Benson, the one who had interviewed and taken the photo, had soon expressed how glad he was doing the interview with the band. Not only did he meet the worlds most popular band at the time, but he had also captured one of the most influential photos in pop culture. It truly brings a smile to my face every time I am met with this photograph because of how innocent, fun and childish its aura radiates. Makes me feel like I’m there watching the pillow fight unfold with a giant grin plastered on my face. The Beatle’s had got me through a tough time when I was younger and always listening to them reminded me of cute memories I have of just riding in the car with my mom. Truly such an influential photo and it makes anyone who’s seen it flash a huge smile.

Canon Lens review

After reading the two experiences written by the photographers, I had felt a bit of inspiration. While reading “Travel Photography” by Randy Kerr it felt all a bit surreal. Being able to fit into many compartments of photography by doing just this type was astounding. Landscape, still life, portrait and more can all fit into the category which could make any photographer very skilled in many areas. I had always had a fascination with traveling photography just for the sole reason that you could travel anywhere and document your travels. It sort of feels like a dream come true and a way of photo journalism. Documenting your whereabouts and possibly getting the scoop on something you hadn’t expected to see feels like photo journalism to me. The other story I had read was about Music photography with Mike Lerner. I was interested in this category because I adore music heading to concerts. Reading about how he had just went for it and went into the business of music photography was an amazing read. Seeing how close he’d become with the Katy Perry’s management and photographing her dramatic times on stage was amazing. Both of these stories had been a great read and learning about experiences that could become my own was amazing to know.

Indeed photography job search

After prowling around on Indeed for jobs that concern photography, I’ve found two that have interested me. One was being a photographer at the retail store, JCPenney in Rancho Cucamonga. It had interested me in the fact that it surrounds portraits and also works with retail. Anything in retail would be somewhat of a suitable job for a teenager who is beginning to insert themselves into the working part of their life. It’s a good first step and when it involves photography it helps insert me into the professional world of photography. There aren’t many requirements for the job it’s mainly preferences. They prefer a year in sales and photography or a want to learn photography. You may be required to be okay with moving a lot throughout the day and lifting heavy items, which may occasionally be 25-40 pounds. The other job was being a photographer at a bridal store. It seemed a bit fun to do because you’re working with people on one of their most special days or about to be and helping their day become the best. It had a few qualifications such as being able to life overhead without help, 2+ years of videographing, and standing for long periods of time. The people at Bellasposas Bridal want a professional and positive environment which I feel I would be great at and would work here to advance myself in my career.

The Broad Museum photo critique

Barbara Kruger - Untitled (Your body is a battleground), 1989, photographic silkscreen on vinyl

Truly the photo that had caught my eye was the one by Barbara Kruger, 1989, Your Body is A Battlefield. It was really the only photo that was able to catch my attention. The inverted half of the woman’s face is what had caught my eye, along with the bold wording throughout the photo. I love how the words feel balanced, two on bottom and one on the middle. The composition of the photo flows from left to right and even up and down, the balance of black and white to red and white seems to be fitted so perfectly. Kruger had made a simple photo, one to be inverted on only one side have such a deep perception of meaning when adding the phrase “your body is a battlefield”. I feel the message that is to be told here with the inversion of only half of the photo is to emphasize the fact that  your body will change in color, from scars, bruises, marks and anything physical or even emotional that could leave an indentation on your skin or even personality. The differentiation in colors, one being completely different in contrast is to allow the viewer of the photograph to try and grasp the emphasis that it is perpetuating. Life is the war and your body is the battlefield, carrying all the battle wounds and scars from every lie event that manages to hit you and destroy a small or even substantial amount of your ‘battlefield.’ It’s absolutely brilliant once the thought is actually put into it.

8 Social Media Trends

Reel brand personality~ With allowing the viewers to see a bit about the person that you are, it will attract a more targeted audience that is attracted to the aesthetic one has with their brand. It will cause a lot of exposure and ensures the right audience is targeted if many see.

Make long videos~ Reels are great for quick glances and gaining attention but to keep the attention going,I could create long videos to truly captivate and keep the loyal customers.

Snap chat~ The most used app of all social media. This would definitely help my brand since many users own snapchat and anyone could see your stories if you allow people to be subscribed to your channel and view the snaps.

Screen To Screen~ Being able to do many things online is way more effective and convenient for my audience. Not everyone is able to be in contact fact to face whenever because of busy schedules so the convenience of facetimes or skype’s is definitely the way to go.

Social Media E-Commerce~ The amazing convenience of being able to make purchases directly on the social media platform being used is an extravagant way to gain buys from customers.

Knowledege is power~ Constantly updating your media and being entertaining while doing so is an easy way to continue to grow the reach and customers of your business.

Speech and text~ Sometimes it’s best to keep things short and sweet. There will be a time for long essay type stories but mainly straight to the point keeps the audience focused.

People at the forefront~ The people supporting your business are the most important people they are. Without them your business is nothing and keeping them happy is the main key of it all.

10 tips

1. Go through my favorite CD covers. The best photographs usually end up as covers since they’re the most important despite the music. If the cover is eyecatching, it’ll draw more people to listen to the album.

3. Shoot for a holiday theme. I’ve never tried to do this but, when going into a business, Christmas themes are the most important and popular. High demand.

4. See an art show. I would love to go to an art show or even an art museum. It had always been a dream for me to visit a place like this, inspiration would be flowing.

5. Take photos of your family. Easily the easiest models and very on hand.

6. Shoot in the dark. All photos are usually in light so taking them in the dark would be cool.

7. Shoot family events. Family events would be fun to capture because it shows true happiness and fun.

8. Use props. Props are very fun and unique to use for photos.

9. Shoot an ordinary photo 7 times. It’d be fun to try and do the same photo 7 times and do your best to make it unique and different each time.

10. Self portraits. Something we somewhat do everyday. It would be super cool to try and take photos of yourself and see how they can come out.
